About My Work

I am a painter who works through observation and process to create abstract constructs. My subjects are derived from observed forms (myself, the figure, interior spaces) and manifest into meaningful abstractions based on how the paint is applied.  My work explores the negative psycho-emotional situations that I’ve experienced as a result of social interaction.  Loneliness, rejection, anxiety and miscommunication are reoccurring themes that function as catalysts for adaptation in the face of adversity.

My Tectonic Woman series employs the elements of natural force and unpredictability to create a unique construction.  The process involved two layers in which the layer underneath caused the top to crack and demolish the representation of the figure into abstraction.  The resulting image is a consequence of the paint under the stresses of time and gravity.  Through medium specificity, emphasis has been put on the use of paint as a means of expression.

In the future, I plan to continue my investigation into the relationship between process, medium and meaning.  My next project will focus on expanding the potency of my Tectonic Woman series by increasing scale, which will allow the viewer to feel more empathy for the figure, with the lifelike relationship it will have to the body.
